Our Campus
For centuries artists have drawn inspiration from their environment. The opera, Tannhauser, and Siegfried-Idyll are among the works of Wagner that reflect the influence of his residence in the country residence of Prince Ludwig II. The Polonaise and Mazurka depict the influence of Poland, the country in which Chopin was born. Surroundings with paintings of famous musicians have inspired many to attain higher levels of perfection in their own work.
Recognising the importance of interaction between the quality of education/arts produced and the environment, the Australian International Performing Arts High School has chosen a serene, attractive site with a heritage building historically associated with music. For the past sixty years the building has served as the home for the Sisters of Mercy, and the original owners dating back to 1888, are thought to be the Harris family after whom the suburb of Harris Park was named. The building was donated to the Sisters in 1927 by a businessman who had expressed a desire to see it used both for the glory of God and for the promotion of music and arts. With their decision to sell the building to the AICM, the Sisters felt that they were remaining true to the donor's spirit.
Images of Haydn and Beethoven are embossed in the beautiful stained-glass windows in the grand staircase in the heritage building. The images further enhance the beautiful surroundings to create the environment for a prestigious music school in the western districts of Sydney. Reminiscent of the Conservatoire in Lucerne, Switzerland, this building set in an acre of beautiful gardens and lawns provides an ideal location for nurturing students' educational and artistic development and also hosting a range of performances and community events. Specialist facilities have been established at the school to provide extended training in music, dance, drama, graphic design and production.
AIPAH is easily accessible by public transport, located within 2 minutes walk of Harris Park railway station and 15 minutes from Parramatta station.
